Detroit Lives.

Just a couple weeks behind, Palladium Boots finally posted the documentary about Detroit.
Check it out. It explains more about what is happening in Detroit and why people are coming down here to live.

I have been enjoying living in Detroit. Growing up in Royal Oak I never knew my neighbors. Here, I have hung out with them many times in the backyard. It is a totally different community.

Going to the suburbs now is like a chore. The people there are so afraid of Detroit and think they know what it is like down here, but they don't. They have no clue. It saddens me...
Last night I was at a church in Troy. They were talking about sending people to Africa to help the people there. I'm sure that Africa needs help, but so does Detroit. Why not send people here? It is so close and we can help so much, but we are too afraid.

Look around you and help the people in your own community. We CAN make this world a better place.

Art Studio

Little by little I've been bringing home things from my art studio at my parents house, to our new house in Detroit. It's still missing a few things but it's getting there, and I'm excited to share the new space so... here it is:

A sewing machine will have a home here one day.

Angela's desk. See the awesome fabric Sam and Brittany found to cover the odd wall?

My area.

Oh, and.... I love this poster. So rad.

Re:View Contemporary

Saturday night, all my new roommates and I went to the Re:View Contemporary Gallery that is just across the street from where we now live. Free admission, free wine, and a special event drew us in...
I had met the owner of the gallery a couple nights before and became interested in doing my own art show. (something I've never done before)
The special event was very well thought out and original: The artist had many watercolor pieces attached to a chain that was wrapped all around her body, with nothing underneath. Each print was displayed on the wall with it's value. Values ranged from $80-$1,000. People were able to buy pieces and as they did they would come off of her body and would expose her skin. The more expensive pieces were located in areas that most people would want covered from the spectators. I love the refreshing idea that she had, but I wonder if anyone else might think that its almost like striptease?

Home Sweet Home!

My new room after all my work...

My room before. Notice the ugly wallpaper that was super hard to remove...

It's been a crazy week of packing, moving, sweating, painting, cleaning, and unpacking.... but here is what we have to gain from it: an amazing home in Detroit!

Ours is the one on the very right.

This is the community garden across the street.

I should've took pictures from before of every room, but I didn't. This is Angela's room.

Britany and Samantha's room. -Sam's bed.

One of the bathrooms. Needs work, but it will have to wait...

Kitchen. -Only room we aren't painting.

Love this storage area... needed it so bad!

Living room is amazing!
We also have an art studio room. Can't wait to spend some time in there!

The backyard and other houses in our unit.
Our neighbors are soooo nice :) & drink a lot of wine... haha

The back porch.
